July 2015 archive
Matt loved the apples with lemon, prosciutto and basil (top left).
I really liked the raspberry, cilantro, buffalo mozzarella and prosciutto combination.
I attempted to make duck tamales with left over corn husks, unfortunately they didn’t taste as good as the ones I used to eat in Mexico. Bulgarian corn flour is a mediocre replacement for Masa, I found it too dense.
I forgot to take a picture of the actual tamale, it looked great yet lacked the fluffiness of a real Mexican tamale.
Sto loves the hammock.
Great salad with balsamic reduction.
Fried cheese with sesame and honey.
Massive poolside shrimp party.
I made homemade cocktail sauce*, very exotic for the Russians.
Sisters Diana & Margot.
Russian vodka and caviar (sitting on a massive layer of butter). YES!
We party like this every night.
Fuzzy picture of my sweet neighbours Elizabeth and Max.
- 1/2 cup Ketchup
- 1/2 cup Horseradish
- 3 shakes of Worcester sauce
- 2 shakes of Soy Sauce
- Mix and serve!
Every year our building gets together and throws a large party for the kids. Both kids and adults alike dress up in costumes and perform a Neptune themed play. Next, they compete head to head in a silly swimming competition. After all the craziness, everyone dries off and returns to the parking lot for a huge B.B.Q. dance party. This year we partied until 2am!
The winners are announced.
Fresh homemade dill pickles with cucumbers and sweet Bulgarian tomatoes.
My beautiful cat-sitters.
Hero of the day, Matt with his air pump.
Kamenitza beer at the kiddy table.
The kids get to eat first. Smart!
My neighbour Vitalina.
Funniest person of all 4 Gerber buildings, the kids just love him.
I want to learn Russian just so I can talk with her.
OMG! Is that DJ Nick??? How did he get into our Gerber party?
Russians don’t mess around with B.B.Q. parties; it’s pork, chicken, pickles, tomatoes and lots of booze. No desserts or stupid chip bowls, just meat and drinks.
Our DJ got surprised by the 9pm sprinklers.
Fuzzy picture of Denis. He grew almost 7 cm this year.
Diana, always looking stylish.
Dancing in the background!
We are the strangest Canadians these people have ever met.
Next year I will be the shortest person in the building.
